What is web mail?
Web mail allows reading and composing e-mail messages on any computer connected to the Internet without need to use an email client (Outlook Express or others) and do the setup. Simply, while being connected to the Internet, enter in some of the browsers (ex. Internet Explorer which is incorporated within any Windows PC) the following address: http://mail.medianis.net:8100 or https://mail.medianis.net and a webmail page opens where you type your username and password. Then click on “Enter” and your mail-box is available.
What are web mail skins and how are they set up?
Users are allowed to choose a skin by means of which they can operate with their inbox. There are four skins (in Serbian and English):
- Bear Look – the default one, with pictures of the Medianis mascot
- Elegant Look - stilized
- Classic Look – simple, classic skin of Medianis web mail
- Business Look – similar to the Outlook express
The default web mail skin is setup on the Bear look. If you want to use another skin click on Settings, choose the layout skin you prefer and activate any of the Update buttons. Then click on Log Out in the uppermost right corner. The web mail login page reappears where you retype your username and password and click on Enter after which the skin you chose is displayed.
Web mail - Settings
In addition to web mail skin settings, the option Settings is used for several useful things. They are:
Text encoding
In this option you set up the encoding preferences. Initially, it is setup on Central European Windows.
UTF Unicode
UTF Unicode allows Cyrilic and Latin alphabet mixing within a message. The option is activated by setting on Reading or Reading and Composing option, and finally by clicking on the Update button.
Mailbox viewer
Initially, your mail box is set up on the message display listed in reversed order, according to date and time (the message list starts from the last to the oldest). In case that you wish to classify the message by title, sender or other parametres, choose Custom, Update, then set the preferences and click on Update again.
Trash management
In this option you can set up the message deleting mode, define where you want to store deleted messages, set up the time of message receiving, as well as the period after which the deleted messages will be automatically removed from your Inbox. For more information, see Help.
Password change
This option is located in Settings. When you activate it, it is necessary to enter the old password and twice the new one in a newopen window and click on Modify .
Personal web site
Every user having an e-mail account on Medianis Net can set up their personal web presentation. Presentation set-up is done through the web mail, and its size is 5MB maximum.
In order to set up your personal presentation, log onto the web mail (those who have not used the web mail so far can inform themselves about the service in “What is web mail ?”), and then choose the option Web site.
In a newopen window there are several options that enable the upload of your presentation on Medianis Net. They are:
Create folder – Enter the folder name on the right, and then click on this button. The folder name will be created.
Browse – this button enables the upload of the filesyou want to have on the server . Just click on this button and choose the file you want to upload. A path leading to the chosen file appears in the field to the right from the Upload file button. Now click on this button and wait until the file has been uploaded onto the server. The same procedure should be applied to the files you want to upload on the Medianis Net server.
Delete marked – this button enables the deletion of files and folders earlier uploaded on the server and not preferable with you regarding the personal web site.
To the left from the uploaded files and created folders there is a “small box”. Click on the box beside the file/folder you want to delete and there appears a “tick” after which you will activate the Delete marked button. The server deletes the files/folders and they disappear from the list.
This is the crucial information as far as your personal web site is concerned:
- The basic (main) file that “activates” the page must bear the name “index.html”. This file is placed in the root of your web site.
- There must not appear a space in the file names, and the system is case sensitive (Picture.jpg and picture.jpg do not represent the same filel!)
- Only the `static web sites` will function. The usage of php, asp, cgi i perl scripts is forbidden (it will not work).
If your web site meets the previously mentioned conditions and if you uploaded the fiiles as instructed, it is ready for public presentation.
If your user name on Medianis Net is pera, your web site will be visible at the address: http://web.medianis.net/~pera
Reading and composing e-mail via mobile phone (WAP)
Your mail account is accessible via mobile phone as well.
The prerequisite is that your mobile phone allows the internet access (WAP protocol, GPRS), and that you have the service activated by your mobile operator.
Everything that you need is to enter the address https://mail.medianis.net in a wap browser, type your username and email password. If the parametres are entered correctly, the access to your messages is available.
What is the antispam protection and and how is it set up?
In this section you can protect your e-mail account from spam messages. In order to do the antispam set-up, log onto the web mail (those who have not used the web mail so far can inform themselves about the service in “What is web mail ?””), and then choose the SPAM option.
In a newopen window enter your username and e-mail password after which this option set-up is available. These are the most important items:
Filter sensitivity
By choosing sensitivity level within the filter which consists of ten scales, you define the `strictness` towards e-mail messages. The lower sensitivity level signifies the lower message filtering while the higher sensitivity level signifies vice versa. It is advisable to adjust the filter on the scale six at least. If you wish the higher level, you will have to check your SPAM box, since some of important messages may end up here due to higher filter sensitivity.
Subject rewrite
A message identified as spam can be added a certain text in the subject that describes the message as spam. You can name the text as you wish and enter it in the given field.
Network tests
In this option you can choose the services for spam detection. It is recommendable to tick the following: DCC i Realtime Blackhole List
Add rule
In this option you can precise what you want:
- Accept mail from
- Reject mail from
- Accept mail sent to
It is not compulsory to activate all three options. For example, you can define only the addresses you want to accept or addresses you want to reject. If you are subscribed to some mailing lists choose “ Accept mail sent to ”, enter the mail address from which you receive the mailing list, and then click on Add Rule.
If you want to delete some of the addresses added in the Rule, just click on Delete Rule.
Feel comfortable while using Medianis mail system!
